Part of Douglass Hills Downsizing Auction (timed auction by Wardlow Auctions)
High bid $600.00
Status: Sold
Imperial German revolver, designated M1879 Reischrevolver, in 10.6mm caliber, with a 7" barrel, single action, and six round cylinder. The left side of the barrel trunnion is stamped with the manufacture date 1882. This gun is marked S & S. V.C.S. C.G.H over SUHL. This is the marking of the Suhl consortium of arms makers consisting of Spangenberg & Sauer, V.C Schilling & Cie and C.G. Haenel & Cie, who supplied Prussia, Bavaria, and Saxony with arms. There are various proof marks on most parts, which was standard for German-issue weaponry. It is also marked on the butt plate with the regimental designation 5. R. A. 2. 13., which has the stylized 'R' likely indicating a reserve unit. The loading gate works perfectly, and mechanically the action is tight. Serial number: 495 is marked in four places (twice on the frame, the barrel, and the cylinder). These revolvers were fitted with a robust safety lever on the lefthand side of the frame, which functions differently depending on the hammer position. If the hammer is in the fire position, the safety locks the hammer completely. if it is in the half-cocked position, it locks the hammer in that position, facilitating reloading of the revolver or removal of the cylinder. They also have a very large lanyard ring on the bottom of the grip for securing the revolver to a uniform. (Available at Ops Supply for inspection). This item is included in an auto-extend bidding group. Any bid placed in the final minutes will extend the closing time for the entire group until no further bids are received.
