Category: Civil War Era
This is a large, believed to be .44 caliber, 6-cavity gang bullet mold with wood handle, lubricating groove, and sprue cutter with molds for pointed bullets. End caps are missing on handles, which show signs of age cracks, though still fully intact. The framed photo and caption at bottom reads "Six-cavity .44 caliber holster mold produced by Colt around 1862, multi-cavity molds such as this cut the amount of time needed to produce large quantities of projectiles and were widely used during the Civil War". Frame size: 9.5"w x 28"h. Mold size is 12.5"long. Other than a 3-digit number on the right handle, no other markings were found, however, we did not disassemble from board.
