#2 • After Louis de Boullogne "Apollo Teaching Hyacinth to Play Lyra" Oil on Canvas
Part of A Louisville Palace Theatre-Themed Estate Auction (timed auction by Wardlow Auctions)
High bid $1,000.00
Status: Sold
Category: Artwork
Antique oil painting from the Louisville Palace depicting Apollo and Hyacinth after the 17th century French artist Louis de Boullogne. Believed to be a student piece done in the 19th century. After inspecting verso, back reads on frame "Restore and Reline, Fit to Frame". It appears to have been relined with a newer canvas that can be seen on verso, and was then fitted and applied to newer canvas. Appears to be a professional restoration. Mounted in very nice older frame having gilded and carved features, turned column sides, and foliate and scroll motif. Has a gallery light that works. Frame is missing a small piece on the lower left corner. Reserve set at $1,000. This item will sell to the highest bidder once the reserve price is met. Size: 3’1”w x 7”d x 3’10”h Exposed area of art: 24.5”w x 31.5”h Location: Living Room
